  • To start, I would put air in those flat tires asap. That's about 1200 of neglected rubber there at replacement cost.

  • Can you get it started? I have a somewhat similar story with a farmall H. I filed the points got fresh gas in and it started! Then I was hooked, it took some tinkering learning and parts gathering but now its running great and I can't wait to paint it and use it. It was an amazing feeling when I drove it up and down the road recently for the first time running great. Dad would have gotten a kick out of it. See if you can get it started!

  • Unfortunately parts are going to be hard to find. First, see if the engine is free, if it is not. You may want to re-think this. Its free, turns with a wrench or crank? good your lucky. You need 3 things to make this run, spark, gas, and compression. Lets start with compression, get a gague and turn the engine over...electric start....your going to need a 6 volt battery...check all connections and wires for fraying...get it to the basics....a battery connected to a starter. Take out the spark plugs and shoot a little oil down the cylinders...crank it and see if you have any compression? You dont? you may want to re think this project...you do? excellent. Now you need spark....see if it has spark by placing the plugs in the wire...grounding it, crank the engine....no spark,,,,check the points in the magnito or condensor, or crud in the dist cap. a loose connection or faulty kill switch will hamper things too. You got spark...cool. Now gas... CLEAN OUT THE CARB! Remove the carb and clean it out, get a small plastic lawn mower tank and hook it all up....Fire extinguisher, water hose, ..safty first....small amt. of gas in tank and ....wait....check the oil... if its out of oil it will throw a rod if it starts.... oil check oil. NOW...try to start it.. if it has all 3...spark, gas, and compression.. it should at least fart. if it runs....shut it down, and change all the fluids, oil, antifreze, gear oil, pto oil..everything..then start it again, and look for leaks...try the gears and see if it will move....soon you will find the reason why it was parked. Remember tractors were expensive... if it was parked it was done so for a reason, usually catastrophic, or it was just wore out. Good luck

Ollie Oliver wrote on Thursday, March 15, 2012 (PDT):
  • The Serial number is on the top right side of the tub frame, by the motor. Stamped right in the casting.

  • First thing you do is pump air in the tires so it can be moved. Second is to pull it outside and clean it down to get all the dirt and crud off it. Third is to see if the engine is tight. Fourth is to have a cup of coffee and then make a list of everything that is broke, missing or needs replaced on the outside of tractor. Fifth is to push it back into the shed for the night. Sixth, in the morning see if you still feel the same way about restoring it. Seventh, prepare yourself for alot of late nights in the shop and keep the coffee pot perking.
